Aaradhna (Ah-Rad-Nah) is a 32 year old soul singer with a long list of accolades to her name. First signed to a recording deal at the age of 16, the singer had two #1 singles and a total of five Top 10 hits under her belt, all before she turned 22. In 2013, Aaradhna reached new heights by winning Album Of The Year at the New Zealand Music Awards, for the critically lauded and commercially successful Treble & Reverb album. With this award, Aaradhna well and truly established herself as a multi award-winning and platinum-selling RnB / Soul artist in her homeland, New Zealand.
Aaradhna relocated to Los Angeles in 2013 after being signed direct to Republic Records, and released the universally praised single ‘Wake Up’ featuring hip-hop legend Common. 'Wake Up’ generated over one million streams on Spotify, and was featured in the hit VH1 TV series Mob Wives.
Aaradhna, Queen of Pacific Soul, toured the US in 2014 to open for the screaming eagle of soul Charles Bradley; the next year she was the first Kiwi to sell out the historic Apollo Theatre in Harlem.
Brown Girl is Aaradhna’s fourth studio album; written by herself, and recorded live in Brooklyn and Los Angeles. The 11 track album was produced entirely by Jeff Dynamite of Brooklyn based Truth & Soul Records (Aloe Blacc, Adele, Lady, Lee Fields & The Expressions). Mixed by Dan Parry (Grammy Winner for Adele’s 21) and mastered by Tom Coyne (D’Angelo – Voodoo, Adele, Amy Winehouse), Brown Girl is an album that demands acknowledgment. Covering a broad musical landscape including RnB / Soul and Country Blues, Aaradhna delivers vocals with a quiet intensity.
The new album also includes musical input from some of the greatest retro / soul instrumentalists and session players on the scene today, including Homer Steinweiss (Amy Winehouse), Leon Michaels, and Vincent John. The effect is an album with a dark vibe and lingering pace, delving into intertwining topics of race relations, label politics, love, heartbreak, judgement, and ignorance. Above all else, Aaradhna’s voice is still her strongest instrument.
Brown Girl was released worldwide on 22 July 2016.
